GCSE Physics - Vectors & Scalars

GCSE Physics - Vectors & Scalars

This lesson is designed for the NEW AQA Physics GCSE, particularly the ‘Forces in Balance’ SoW.

For more lessons designed to meet specification points for the NEW AQA Trilogy specifications for Biology, Chemistry and Physics please see my shop: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/SWiftScience

The lessons begins with a diagram which explains the difference between distance and displacement. Children are given the definition for each of these terms. The slides that follow show students the difference between scalar and vector quantities, examples of each are given and children can also have a go at completing some calculations using scalar quantities. This task can be self-assessed using the mark scheme provided.

To summarise, students will need to complete a ‘Cloze’ activity which will assess their understanding of the terms they have come across so far in the lesson.

Next, students will be shown how to represent a vector quantity, using arrows to depict the direction and magnitude of the vector quantity. Students will also need to learn how to complete a scale diagram, a video can be shown first, then students will be given a worksheet to complete. The mark scheme for this task is included, so students can either self-assess or peer-assess their work once complete.

The plenary task requires students to summarise what they have learned this lesson.

All resources are included. Thanks for looking, if you have any questions please do email swyftresources@gmail.com.
